Bilingual French-English website

One site, all your languages: content, store, forms and transactional emails in French, in English — and in any other language your market needs.

A truly bilingual site, not a pasted-on translation

In Quebec, serving your clientele in French and in English isn't a luxury — it's often the difference between being found or not by half your market. The need is especially common in tourism and culture and for industrial SMBs that export. A well-built bilingual site is two complete sites sharing a single admin: each language has its own URLs, its own SEO and its own maintained content.

We work with Polylang, which we chose for its performance and reliability. And nothing limits you to two languages: the same mechanics handle a multilingual site with as many languages as your market demands. Multilingual support is planned from the architecture stage: it's much simpler — and less costly — than retrofitting it later.

Bilingual support can be built into a complete design project, and an existing website can become bilingual after an audit of its structure. See website design →

What a well-made bilingual site includes

Every detail counts so that both languages are first-class.

URLs by language

Clean structure (/fr/, /en/ and any other language, or separate domains), correct hreflang tags: Google understands and ranks each language.

Everything is translated

Pages, posts, store, forms, transactional emails and error messages: nothing is left in the wrong language.

Multilingual SEO

Titles, descriptions and structured data by language, bilingual sitemap: each market gets complete SEO.

Smart redirection

Visitors arrive in their browser's language and their choice is remembered — without blocking search engines.

Simple management

Translate from the WordPress admin, page by page, with both versions side by side.

Bilingual store

Products, cart, checkout process and confirmation emails in both languages, Canadian taxes included.

Your advantage in the AI era

A bilingual site doubles your organic reach: your English-speaking clients find you in their language, on Google and in AI engines alike — which cite content written in the language of the question asked. Two markets, one site to maintain.

Let's talk about your bilingual site

New site or existing site to make bilingual: we assess your content and propose a clear plan.

Questions fréquentes

How much does a bilingual website cost?

Planned from the start, bilingualism mostly adds the translation and configuration work — far less than retrofitting it later. For an existing site, we assess the structure before quoting: it's often quite reasonable if the foundation is sound.

Why Polylang rather than WPML?

We chose Polylang for its performance: lighter, faster and more stable over the long term on the sites we maintain. It's a choice based on experience, not on trends.

Can I translate my content myself?

Yes. Both versions are managed side by side in the WordPress admin, page by page. We train you, and you stay independent.

Can machine translation be used?

As a starting point, yes — never as a finished product. Unrevised machine translation hurts your credibility and your English-language search rankings. We always recommend human revision.

Can my current site become bilingual?

In most cases, yes. We audit the structure, configure Polylang, migrate the content and set up the URLs and hreflang tags. If the technical foundation isn't suited to it, we'll propose the best path forward — frankly.

Can I have more than two languages?

Yes. The same mechanics handle a multilingual site with as many languages as needed — Spanish, German, Mandarin or any other. Each language gets its own URLs, its own search rankings and side-by-side management in the admin. French-English bilingualism is simply the most common case in Quebec.
